Just installed a new Princess, should have done it ten years ago, I LOVE this stove, I wanted to know how cool most let them get before reload. I have read about thermal shock on the cumbster. My burn times so far about 20 hours, Did I say I love this stove ?

Good for you! That is a luxurious way to burn wood, in a BK. How about a shot of the stove installed?

Congratulations.................you can't beat BK burn times.

Or the deep ash pan.....or the set it and forget it nature

Congrats!

In terms of re-loading, it depends on the amount of heat I need. Typically I let it burn down until the cat goes to the line between the active and inactive zones. If I load earlier, I just let it run with the bypass open for 5 minutes before opening the door.

In theory, you can reload whenever you want. The only risk is that opening the door when the cat is ripping hot will send a rush of cool room air right into that hot cat and the thermal shock can damage the cat. Ideal reload is a full load into a stove that has burned down to just enough coals to keep the cat active.

Yeah nice one.

I just reloaded with the stove still fairly hot. Still had a few partially burnt splits in there and still well well into the active zone, I need to go to bed off of Nightshift so it had to be done.

Open by pass and reload. The new wood just virtually exploded and there was non of this 'Burn on 3 for 15mins then gradually close it down non-sense.

Don't pander to this stove like some. It 'Works' for you remember.
