I wanted to get some opinions on help determining what this is. I think it's rust. This showed up within 2 months of ownership on my Drolet HT-3000 stove last winter. It rubs off brown onto a paper towel with vinegar. I contacted Drolet and they told me to pound sand, and go get some stove paint. They said it's not rust, and I must have smudged something on my stove. I don't ever put anything on top of my stove or near it since it's insanely hot. It's pretty unsightly right on the front of my new stove. This stove is inside in my living room.

This is the picture I sent them.

Clean it up as best possible and touch up with matching paint.

The sooner you paint it, the more likely it will match. Paint fades over time.

But yes, you can see that the texture is filled with something. Whether that is rust or dog poo or something else. If you can remove that material so that the area of touch up looks as bumpy as the adjacent area that will minimize the visibility of the repair.

My csi watching experience tells me the blood spatter pattern suggests it's cast off and/or smear.
