Hello
Had a few gas weed wackers and the last weed eater did not last long. Now that the new 5 AH 56 VDC Lithium was on sale for $100 off @ Home Depot when I ordered it on May 16,2000, I thought I would try it? It does have a big honkin battery!!
The new feature on the EGO Power Plus Is the fast load feature.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/EGO-15-...Battery-and-Charger-Included-ST1534/305203561
The trimmer operator’s manual is 114 pages, the Battery Operator’s manual is 48 pages and the Charger Operator’s manual is 60 pages! The 5 AH battery BA2800 takes 100 mins to charge And should easily last one season, so I hope I can read everything by the time the battery is ready!
Also I hope the 5 AH battery lasts a while because a new one is $249.00 !!!
https://www.homedepot.com/p/EGO-56-Volt-5-0-Ah-Battery-with-Fuel-Gauge-BA2800T/308667787
Hopefully the batteries will get cheaper and gone on sale before we need one!
The 5 pack of strings is $12.97 is the best bargain.

Anyone have any good luck with one?

I have Ryobi's best 18V line trimmer and I love it. Coupled with a 6 AH battery I can do most of what I need to do in our 2 acres or so.
l love that it starts every time and I don't smell like 2-stroke exhaust after using. it.

Just bought a Black & Decker 40V Lithium weed whacker.
The Princess wanted it, so we'll see how that works.
Hi Daksy
Did you get the 2.0 AH battery?

Check out the EGO quick load feature here!

I have gas weed eater. I just run it dry every fall. Zero Problems. Going on 9 years now. Key to long life is not to leave gas in the carb to gum it up. Batteries don't last that long

You can buy a pack of two batteries at a really good price during the holidays.

I just saw a you tube video and that guy has 5 year old EGO 56 volt lithium batteries and they are still working fine. :)

The price of the batteries would be somewhat offset by not buying gas and oil. I use the Stihl oil, which is pricey but excellent. So, a gallon of gas mix cost me about $4.50 (before the gas prices went so low), and I burn maybe two gallons a year, for a total of $9.00/year. So, if a battery lasts 5 years, the offset would be $45.00. The ease of starting the electric, lack of noise, etc. it worth something, too.
That said, I'll stick with my 4Mix.

I got a Milwaukee Fuel on end of season sale last year. Haven't used it yet but it's coming.

All gas trimmers do strange things to my hands with their vibes. Useless for hours afterwards. Hoping for better with this one.

I probably would have stayed with gas if it did not break and it is easy to get used to not mixing the 2 cycle gas, draining the tank after each use, and the noise and smell and cleaning or changing the filter and spark plug. Just pull the trigger and it works.
The 14 foot of line lasts quite a while and the fast load press of the button makes it so easy too.
I can get used to it. The low speed has plenty of power, have not tried high speed yet. :)

A string trimmer head takes a beating. I wonder how long that EGO head will stand up? Our Stihl head is now over 10 yrs old. The normal loading of the string is a short process but it is simple, with all parts right in front of you. I would want to know how well EGO has designed repairability for this new self-load head? It's a slick concept, but it must last and be tough.

It looks like a good idea, but the more "stuff" there is, the more there is that can and will break. Time will tell.

I picked one of those up last year. Overall, I like it a lot. Too soon to speak for longevity, but ease of use, convenience, power* are all fine.

I put a * by power, because I don't know if it's my imagination or not, but the first dozen uses or so, my thought was "WOW this thing really rips!" and I was working to keep the 'throttle' at half or less a lot of the time because that is all I needed for the general grass edging I was trimming. Then one use I thought "hummm... it doesn't seem to have the revs that it used to". Thought maybe a low battery so I fully charged it, but again, seemed to be less power. Now it seems like I just hold the throttle pegged and it's 'OK' but doesn't have the 'WOW' that I remember. It even seems like it initially revs for the first second or so, then backs down to a more leisurely pace. So I don't know... just getting used to it? Something real has 'broken'?

One thing to consider, when buying an electric power tool, you're essentially buying the whole line of tools... unless you're OK with a bunch of different / incompatible batteries, chargers, voltages, etc. EGO has a line of yard equipment, so that is fine, but they don't do anything on the power tool side that I know of. If you look at some of the 'tool' manufacturers, they are also expanding out to yard equipment (DeWalt, Kobalt, Makita, etc) so depending on what all tools you want, you might find a system where batteries are usable in drills, saws, grinders, impact wrenches, as well as mowers, blowers, chainsaws, trimmers, etc.

That's why I did my spur of the moment buy on the Milwaukee when I saw it marked down. Already have a bunch of M18 batteries here along with Fuel drills, driver, saw & grinder. And small blower. Their stuff kicks serious butt.

First workout with it should be coming up real soon. Yard & lawn is a disaster, haven't even had the mower out yet this year. But this weekend looks wet again too - so will see.

I bought the Ego 15" string trimmer from Home Depot on Sunday, May 31, 2020. I bought the low end version, 56V-2.5A battery. Main reason was the price at $169, plus I have the Ego self-propelled lawn mower (7.5A battery) and the Ego chain saw (5A battery), all 56V, and all usable on all the tools. I've used it briefly, and initial evaluation is that it works well, no gas or fumes, and plenty of power. New string loading is manual winding without taking opening the power head. It is a bit heavy with the power head on one end and the battery on the other. The only issue so far is that opening the power head in the event the string gets jammed or for other service takes a lot of thumb power, the locking tabs are very tight. I expect they will loosen up over time. BTW, I'm well satisfied with the mower and the chainsaw.

The manuals are adequate, but most of the pages are for different languages. English portions are not lengthy.
