Hi All, Just had Lopi Liberty installed this morning and started the curing process per Lopi's manual. Slow burn went ok, but as the fire got a bit hotter, (500-525) smoke started coming out of the left vent ( not sure if it's called a vent) please see picture. I tried adjusting the damper (bypass) and the air intake. Not much help. Kept smoking from just that left side. Noticed the inside left side of the stove was not burning as much as the right side. I don't have a clue what's going on! Have two fans going to keep the smoke down. Please help!!! Thanks all!

Sounds like the stove is burning off. The first fire normally is just a load of kindling, to get the stove used to operating. Its gonna take a number of fires to fully cure. Open windows and let it vent out as you can, but sounds like a normal thing. Sometimes you'll get wisps of smoke off the stovetop too. Nice stove, enjoy her!

Thanks much! I was worried that there was something wrong with the install or placement of the cat combustor. So this seems like a normal burn off to you?

Yes, I'd think so. The first few fires at 500 degrees stove top temp, the smell and wispy smoke will clear up. The Liberty is a nice stove, its been around a long time now.

Very much appreciate the "calming' response. I did get a little freaked with the smoke; I'll maybe two more lower burns and hope the smoke abates. Thanks again stovelark!

As noted, the paint is baking in. Open a nearby window and put a fan exhausting out of it. Then take the stove top up to 600-650ºF to complete baking in the paint. In a week this should be just a memory.
