Quick and easy lesson on posting pictures. Just click on the Upload a File button and that takes you to your pictures folder. To load multiple pictures, just hold the Ctrl button down while selecting the files and they will all upload at the same time. Then after they are loaded just click on the thumbnail option for all files and it will work fine.
Sounds like you are in this for good and good for you. My congratulations to you too for starting the way you are. That is, being concerned about the wood before getting the stove in. Most don't think much about fuel until it is needed and that is a prescription for failure when it comes to burning wood.
One thing you will need to concentrate on is learning the different types of firewood and how long each will take to dry out. The popple and silver maple can be ready for burning next fall if you get them split as quickly as you can and it appears you will be stacking them out in the open. That is great! But be aware that some types of wood will need a year or more to be ready to burn good and learn to identify different trees that are in your area. In that bulldozed pile you have a great school room available to you. Don't be afraid to post pictures for the guys to help identify but be aware too that it is easy to mistake some woods when looking at pictures. Some guys like to ID by the leaf so if those are available it is a big help. A look at the bark from both the bottom of the tree and further up will also help as will a couple of splits.

For devoting my spare time to gathering wood, however I will be the one laughing come winter! Yes I will post pictures of the pile I'm going after this week! I offered to work a double time night shift Thursday so I can go cut wood in the day and also go out Friday as I am off as well as all weekend! I'm pumped.... Feeling the Heat
I reckon when it gets to the point where you start to salivate at snags (wondering how dry they might be), alongside roads where you're not allowed to park, much less get out and saw, you know there's not much hope.
And if you get bored, when you get that X27
you can always split some of those larger sections down a bit, and enjoy the satisfaction of knowing they will dry a bit faster.
