Burning Hunk

So finally got around to cleaning the stove for the year. This was my first year burning the princess. I ran the sooteater around New Years and pulled about 1/4 coffee can out then, and today was about another 1/4 can. Overall I was pleased. It was mostly all very fine powder, almost like flour. I decided to replace the door gasket as well. I have a new one. Last year after failing the dollar bill test I tightened up the door latch. That got me through the season but now a new one. So I pulled the old one out and scraped the old glue out. Any tricks with putting the new one in? Just some furnace cement and go? I assume I'm going to loosen my door latch now, with the new one. Thanks.

Oh yea, and damn the sooteater is nice. My roof pitch is too steep. Never left the living room. 30 minutes later done!

Over the years I did a few with the rock hard gasket cement. For some reason I had issues with It becoming detached for the gasket. The last door gasket I did with ultra high temp silicon. I think it stays pliable, allowing the gasket to seal better. I got it in a automotive store, permetex ultra high temp copper silicone.

The procedure must be here somewhere, but dry fit, don't stretch it out. Bead of cement set in gasket, again don't stretch it. Put door back on close the door and latch. Open door cleanup any squeaked out cement. Repeated this over the next few hours. Then leave closed and latched for a few days. I let it dry for a few days before a burn.
