They're installed correctly,the sides step in at this point but i don't really know why.I do know that the black in the back is the air channel for secondary air.I liked the cheaper firebrick which can be had for $3,00 at the stove shop. Heavy built stove,hoping it works as good as i believe it will.lol Heat shields can't be installed till pipe is on to allow for pipe screw insertion under flu shield.

Very nice! I recently found out that a relative of mine works for Jotul. Wish I had known that a year ago when I was looking for a new stove and didn't consider Jotul because they were out of my price range. Oh well, I love my PE and I got a great deal on it.

You do not understand Bub. Here at hearth.com we have firebox measurement standards. Room for four but I only had three on hand.

Nice looking unit, looks familiar... do you have a few birds and live in thomaston?
Had a fun time bringing that one in.... I was breaking in a new guy, had to remove all the bricks, doors, even the ashpan just so he could help lift it outta the clefts on the pallet... then the front door and screen door were hanging about 1/2" too far to get the dolly and stove thru... had to take the doors (and their hardware) off the frame to eek the dolly and stove thru!

In answer to the firebrick zigging out in the firebox: yes, they do install that way... they insulate the 2ndry air maifold channels leading to the baffle and 2ndry tubes.... It looks a little funky, but it is an EASY AND UNIVERASLLY AVAILABLE standard firebrick to replace. If these are the same folks, then the stove they had b4 was an Encore, and there ain't nothing easy and universal (or standard) to replace in Encores....

Oh believe me,i feel for ya.We looked long and hard and believe it or not the Rangeley was our 1st pick,then we got to thinking it's too big and then once we figured the square footage etc the Castine was no good for an overnight burn and looking several more stoves over we ended up back with the Rangeley.I believe it will do the job.Sorry for the troubles but i have nothing but good to say about Rocky's.We'll be back for our burning needs.Also i thank these guys and gals on here for helping us with our decisions,couldn't have done it alone.Tracie wants to know if that fella still works for ya after all that?lol We'll still need another thermometer.Thanks again.

new guy is no longer around.. he couldn't handle it... he did a good job getting the door off the hinges: not so good at moving stoves. Have not heard from him since thursday. This job is not for everyone....
I think you guys will love the stove... remember: if you want less heat, use less wood!

lol We've been schooled on lots of tricks,and yes i believe this will do the trick.It may look big but we can do some tuning if need be.Just want the longer burn time.This place is almost 1400 sq ft so it will be fine.Old house poorly insulated.Pipe install on Sept 21st.Just in time.$1,700 materials incl.

That is definately the truth! A lot of people can't hack this type of work. Have broken in a few fellas and just plain broke a few as well! Many don't last. Gotta be in the blood!

The stove looks fantastic and i am excited about a new top loader. Still waiting to put one in......

Strange question, as i havent seen much on these new jotuls, how does the top load secondary combustion work? I can see an added lever almost like a cat, does this swing the baffle/plate out of the way, scissor open, open a 3rd dimension where wood just appears in the firebox?

The handle on the left swings the secondary combustion plate straight up and open, and at the same time slightly opens the top plate to quickly balance the pressures out before you actually open the top plate to load it.

There is a latch that pops up which closes the combustion plate automatically when you close the lid so you cant leave it open by accident. Neat system for a secondary combustion stove. one fluid motion. The opening you pass the wood through is not very big IMO, but people who have them say they work very well. Big forehead on the stove as well to acommedate for all the moving parts. Big firebox too boot!
