I just ordered the Drolet 1800 insert (2020 EPA revision). I had one installed at my house in 2015 and recall the smoke from the paint curing process being pretty intense. I am wondering what the best way to do this is. My instinct says to just burn it really hot for an entire day, open all the windows, and play outside with my kid so I can monitor it. No idea if that will work. Your feedback is appreciated.

Then it stank (although not as bad) every time I had a fire for the next handful of times. I had my first fire of the season last week and it did smell a little bit when I got it going pretty hot, but it was not nearly as bad. So, I'm guessing you'll have the same experience as it's almost certainly the same paint. If I could have broken it in outside first, I would have, but it would have been a pain for me to move it. Oh, and warn your kid that it's gonna smell bad in the beginning but that will go away with time. My kid was pretty unhappy about the stink.
