We have an Avalon fireplace insert in our timeshare in northern Vermont, and absolutely love it. We're now thinking of installing an insert in our home in Princeton, NJ. It is a 2400 foot colonial. We would really only want to heat the first floor of the house.

We're looking for an absolutely simple look: no shiny bits, as unobtrusive as possible. Can anyone give us some brand and model recommendations? I've looked at Avalon and Enviro online and like what I've seen, but have no way of comparing build quality, reliability, and efficiency. There are also not a lot of dealers near us...a limiting factor.

Any advice much appreciated!

Welcome. Avalon, Lopi, Enviro are good brands. As far as the model recommendations, we need the full dimensions of the fireplace. Also, is there a preference or clearances issue to trim or mantel that we should know about. Pictures of the existing setup are helpful if you have them.
