I just replaced my twenty six year old Regency FM2400 with a Pacific Energy Super LE. On my first lighting I had a hell of a time keeping the flame going with draft wide open and very dry wood. It's going now on kindling but when I open door, I get a good puff of smoke coming out. The temps out side are around 10C (50F). They did have to put in an elbow at top for clearance purposes. I'm wondering if that could be the issue. My regency would lite up no problem. So could it be 1) new stove and needs to dry out 2) the elbow 3) let the pipe get up to temp before opening door to reload?

How tall is the flue system, from stove top to chimney cap?

With marginal draft, trying at 50 F may just not work.

I would say about 15'. I may have posted prematurely, after some coaxing with birch bark it seems to be going nice now. I still have to crack the door for about 50 seconds before full open to load to minimize smoke

Okay. I do think the issues that you saw were due to poor draft due to the higher outside temp combined with a minimum flue length.
It'll likely work well when it's 40

Once the flue is warm now it'll be okay. Start up with a cold flue may be harder when it's warm out.

Yes, I'm in Prince Edward Island, Canada, and it was a tad over 17c today (60f) , it's dropped down to 9c now.

The offset will introduce a little more resistance, slowing down the draft a bit. That may be the difference between the previous install and the new one. If so, at 8ºc it should start drafting well. Leaving the door ajar a few centimeters until the kindling starts burning well is a good solution.

Morning update, no issues lighting, temps around 6c, good updraft and no smoke when opening door. One thing I did learn about the stove being EPA 2020 certified is that I have to start with smaller wood longer before putting in the larger pieces since it's metered air flow regardless of draft setting. Smaller being 2" to wrist size after kindling. Any other Super LE owners out the?
