Burning Hunk

Found a guy getting rid of a bunch of nice split wood at $50 a cord. It's mostly oak too. I'm getting about 2 cords a load. Got 2 loads already, and about to head back for a third load now. I don't normally buy wood but I couldn't pass this up. I'll post some pics later.

Nice.
That's like finding home heating oil for 29¢ a gallon.

Face cord, or an actual cord? Crazy price if it is indeed a full cord for $50.

Filled up a 6x12 Uhaul and the back of my truck 3 times for $300. Measuring the trailer, it would hold 2.5 cords if was neatly stacked but we just loaded it with wheelbarrows and dumped it in. So, I'm figuring was getting about 2 cords a load.

Now, let it sit for 2 years and sell it for $150-$200 per cord as TRULY seasoned wood.

Six cord of oak for 300 bucks is a steal. How long has it been split?

Actually, this stuff was all stacked and top covered and supposedly had been for several years. It seems to be pretty dry for the most part. My moisture meter seems to have gone AWOL, but hopefully tomorrow I can find it and see what I'm really dealing with.

If that's the case, it's an even better steal.

Wow. Nice score! Nice house too, dude. That truck ain't bad either. You're a blessed dude.

Well, that's not my house, that's the house I picked up the wood from. Our house is nice, but not that nice.

So is the last picture with the pile in the background the pile you made, or the pile you collected from? If it's the one you collected from, why in the world is he selling the stuff at basement prices?

That's the pile I made. Took that pic just before I started unloading the third load. At their house, it was still all in nice stacks and top covered with tarps. Now I just need to get it stacked...lol.

Apparently they were just not going to be heating with wood anymore so he just wanted to get rid of it. He kept about 2 cords so they could have an occasional fire but that's all he wanted.

That, my friend, is a SCORE!

No way, that is not a great score.....Its an EPIC SCORE!

Ok, so I found my moisture meter. Went out this morning and grabbed 10 splits out of the pile. Split them again and tested on the fresh face. The highest reading I got was 18%. I guess I'll probably be burning this stuff this winter and giving my stacks another year to dry. My wood supply was not looking so good, but now I've definitely got at least 3 years worth of wood on hand.

Almost falls under the category of "too good to be true".

Now, I just have this huge pile of wood in the yard that I need to get stacked before it gets buried in snow.
