NY Gov. Cuomo Launches Program for WoodHeating Systems

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has launched a $27 million initiative to build the market for high-efficiency, low-emissions wood heating systems in the state.

The program, launched Tuesday at Troy-based Evoworld, a maker of high-efficiency wood-pellet boilers, is aimed at developing more clean technology manufacturing in the state along with a skilled heating system installer base and sustainably harvested wood fuels from state forests.

I wonder if the Governor has read the NY State Constitution on state forever wild lands. To change that would require a change to the NY State Constitution referendum to be voted on in Nov by NY State voters. I guess its possible seeing how they got Casino passed by some very positive wording.

Well there went his Manhattan votes. >>

I think I see one problem already. Trying to cut anything from state forests. Would be nice to see a few more states encourage pellet production and use in state without shipping the wood overseas. A neighboring community by me is taking thier system out. To much maintenance.

Andy should throw a couple of bucks here for education on clean burning. >>

The beer in the moderator's break room is running low.

I see the "tax credit" that will be given for this has come from the RGGI....one of the very programs that make energy and manufacturing UN-affordable in those states. Maybe its a good thing, but it usually NEVER turns out good when big brother gets further involved in ANY industry. Soon enough you wont be able to afford a pellet stove in NY (same as modern vehicle after the auto bail out) because they will have "meet THERE standards" or else..........this will end with STRICT pellet stove regulations just like wood stoves.

There was a great t-shirt with the saying printed on it "I'm from the Government and We're here to help" The picture printed is very politically incorrect.

I cant believe that any New Yorker could vote for this guy after what he pulled under the Clinton administration as HUD secretary......He is gonna help the pellet industry the same way he helped the sub prime mortgage market.

Logging on state land (limited) has been going on for decades. I feel more should be done. The amount of overgrown timber on stateland that is lost to decay and windfall here is staggering. The $ from timber sales would go along way towards improving infrastructure here. Our roads have turned into cattle paths the last 10 years due to no funding. I don't have a problem with logging state land = job creation and coffer $. If the $ went to Turd Island on the coast then I'd have a problem with it.
There are some pending charges against Cuomo I've heard about in the news this week. Hopefully he gets an all inclusive vacation at Rikers.

He and his administration hired legal council yesterday, so that might be a sign of things to come. Sigh. Not much will get done then.

Don't want to derail this too much, other than to say I do think NYS will try to use biomass more where they can but I see it being pellets more than cordwood so that the output can be "guaranteed". This also just means they can track production and tax it, which they can't do with the trees in your backyard.

I had started another thread here about some of the upcoming incentives that this press conference on Tuesday was going to announce. Going to be hard to qualify for anything for a while, and no one around me even offers bulk pellets...

High tree canopy in NY State forests do little to improve mammal and bird wild life. I agree with you. That said the NY State constitution on forever wild state land is still the law of the land. It really doesn't matter what you or I think.

Evoworld, at Troy Boiler works is less than 20 miles from me. I took a tour of the factory a while ago. As I recall, looked like quality base work, but the completed product wasn't quite there at the time-they were getting an engineer from Austria in to tune things up. They must've made some progress. Alas, all of this is not that interesting anymore since I have a Windhager in the basement waiting to be hooked up. :)

Seventy year old woman having her garage stand raided for non Minnesota fireworks.(can't fly or pop) 18 agents. BATF, Local Sheriffs, Homeland Insecurity, BIA,(God forbid the Indians get a Saturn missile battery) and bomb squad. Two years probation. Still selling fireworks!

I got $1400 back from the government for installing a $3600 pellet stove. Result less of my hard earned money going to Middle east to pay for oil. I am thinking about taking advantage of all the government solar rebates. I am a volunteer Firemen/EMT that uses equipment all paid for by the Government through taxes. You have a car accident in my town or any town you may want to thank the government for being there when you call 911.

911 is the government and 911 is there to help. ;)

Just saying the government is not all bad.

A fair number of those volunteer fire department facilities look like Taj Mahals. I figured taxation was involved. My local FD also has a huge solar array behind it, in all liklihood also paid in large part by taxes and utility assessments-the ever popular system benefit charge-more like a open wallet to NYSERDA. Kinda sucks if you don't have a suitable site for solar. I don't know how they're funding the biomass incentives, since NYSERDA is funded by those utility bills and biomass doesn't have a direct utility connection, like more efficient A/C or gas appliances.

Your taking things out of Context. We pay taxes for the services you mention and other things like nice streets and libraries and parks schools etc etc etc........After there is a worthwhile amount of people using solar, the other shoe will drop. I wouldn't be so hard on "big oil" either as you use it in everyday life for almost everything you touch........I'm fact you or the rest of the country could not survive without it !

I am originally from Otsego County, and still get home every November to deer hunt. Plenty of the state forest land in Otsego County is being actively timbered, in fact, that is where the best hunting is usually. I know that the Forever Wild is the law of the land up in the Adirondacks, but NY is a big place and has diverse management policies on public land.

Good grief.
