I've got a neighbor that is having water dripping from his prefab flue into his fireplace, so I offered to help. I've been reading up on Hearth.com, and he has no cap on his flue, so I thought this was a no brain-er.
He says he has never had a cap and it's never leaked, so I climbed up and found a rusted out square Deflector of some sort inside the flue that collects the water and disperses it some where. Does anyone know what this is, what is does, or who made it? I attached some pictures, if I did it right.
