If you already have the insurance check. I'd have the repairs done to the chimney. Not noticeable to anyone. But concrete and mortar expand and contract with the changing of temperature. Which will make the damage even worst over time. As time goes by the cost of materials always goes up. Ten years from now the repair to the chimney could be doubled. By haveing the chimney repaired now will also give you peace in mind.

Why would you waste time and money on fixing flue tiles for a pellet stove? Run a pellet liner to the top and fix the crown in the spring. Your "not" going to "burn your house down" from pellet exhaust with a liner. Hell most people vent them out the wall and up the side of the house a few feet.

Just curious, but how much more would it cost you to run a 6" liner? It sounds like you were already going to pay for 3" or 4" for your pellet stove. Would the insurance $ cover the difference? Then you could vent the pellet stove into the 6" liner and have the flexibility to pull it out and go back to wood if you ever wanted to without a huge expense.

6" would create a greater draft and may negatively effect the burn quality of the stove. Another thread is based on the topic ... stove wasn't burning right, had trouble adjusting because he used 6" liner....
