Well, in anticipation of the expected cold (for us) weather I did a full tear down cleaning of my stove yesterday. The results were great! Increased heat and a happy stove. BUT . . . when I came downstairs this morning I discovered I had neglected to put the ash bin back in! The stove is off and cooling and I will vacuum out the bottom of the stove before replacing it. [Wow . . . as I am typing this Madame DeFarge called to remind me to deal with the ash bin!]

Anyway, need I do anything else before starting her back up - by her I mean the stove, not the wife.

Ha, I might do something like that too.

Just make sure you use an ash vacuum and not a regular one; there might be some heat in those ashes.

Yup. Got my Cougar...the vac not the wife! . . . at least as far as I know, but no one around here tells me anything.

Ah, another one that hasn't a chance.

How is the dear lady, well I hope, and able to give you lots of grief, because it sounds like, you need it ;lol :p .

Hehehehe. I forgot to close the lid on my clean out box on the venting system a couple times after cleaning. Fills the house nicely with smoke. Did not know about it till my wife called and asked why the house smelled like smoke and why was it getting harder to see her computer screen. !!!

Yes Smokey . . . she is well and I deserve it all! As my kids say "My bad". I have no idea what that really means but that is the price you pay for having 17 year old twins when you are already 60 years old!.

That'll do it right there. You can't exactly hand those kids back to their mother like grandchildren after you have spoiled them.

Trust me on this one . . . it is the Madame who spoils them. Me they view as a miserly curmudgeon. I accept the curmudgeon appellation, but reject the miserly tag.

If you have a leafblower, now might be a good time to give it a quick shot. A lot of the ash that was produced last night was probably blown directly into your venting. Also, you may need to remove the comb fan cover and address that area.

Thanks...will do!

Sure glad I've never done anything stupid like that in my first 70 years! I'm in the same boat as you as far as kids two generations apart. Just couldn't calm the 'little devil' down!

Sh****t. 70 years and nothing as stupid as that? You must be a Saint! . . . and single.

Don't even want to talk about college tuition.

Pure joke, son! If I had to list the stupid crap I've done, I'd need another 70 years of typing! Still married too, but I introduce her as my 'latest wife'. And when I come to, I apologize. :)

Bah... open door, insert ash pan, close door. A half day of ash there isn't going to matter.

All seems OK with a quick vac and insert of pan....then again, Madame DeFarge remains unmollified...as usual. As to the twins, my son notices nothing (Sargent Schultz) and my daughter notices EVERYTHING. Ah....life!
