can you help i have a open fire with a triple pass grant back boiler which is working fine can i make it into a stove someway

Could you clarify your question somewhat? Maybe a picture or two?

My guess is no, it was not engineered this way. But ask Grant Engineering maybe?

However, with the plumbing mostly in place, perhaps a freestanding stove with a boiler back might be able to replace it. I would consult some local stove shops and plumbers about this. Boiler backs are quite rare this side of the pond.

Maybe investigate replacing it with a freestanding Stanley stove?

How do they work?

As far as I can tell, it's a freestanding, cast iron fireplace insert that routes exhaust fumes through flue channels in the surrounding water jacket. The unit is open, with the solid fuel burner grates at the bottom.

Perhaps someone has made glass enclosure doors for this unit? That will require local inquiry.

Doesn't seem like it could touch the efficiency of the downdrafts?

A glass door would soot up in seconds unless there is some kind of air wash over the glass.
