Pro: Greatest woodstove of all time

Con: It was the flavor of the year in 2007 and is now somewhat passe

We're having one installed tomorrow. Too bad it won't be inspected until Jan. 5th!! Might be hard to resist the temptation to just have one or two little-bitty fires... just to test it out!

If you're still shopping in a few weeks, we'll definitely have more to say, k?

It certainly has a nice sized box, at 20" E/W and 18" (I believe) N/S. You can load both side-to-side and back-to-front. That will give you lots of loading options for different needs. It also has, arguably, the closest clearances to combustables that you'll find, for that type stove, so you should be able to get it nice and tight to the walls, etc., should you want.

I also considered the Lopi stoves that are comparable, and the Jotuls, but the PEs were just so much less expensive for lots of box. Plus, they're very well regarded by folks on here, which counts for a WHOLE lot!

I've run Lopi, Jotul, and PE at the house, and the best by far is the PE

What specifically did you like about the PE over the others??? Were all other factors equal?

Anyone have any expierience with the Summit? Pros and Cons…

I did some research before I purchase the Summit insert and did not find much information, except for this web site, it was very helpful, so I decided I should also help and post my experience with the Summit but I have the insert. I've had the PE Summit Insert for three weeks now and I'm glad I choose the Summit. I Do not regret getting this unit, it's been a wonderful addition to my house. My family is now so used to the wood burning heat that this unit puts out vs.. the gas heat that they complain if the unit goes out and ask me to get it going again.

This past week it was 5 degrees out and this unit heated my house's two story open floor plan with ease. At times I have to crack a window to balance the large amount of heat this unit puts out. I'm learning how to control the unit by when to add wood, open and close the damper and the speed of the fan. I decided on this unit after reading reviews on here, and it seamed that most of the people who have the PE inserts are very happy with them. I'm now one of those people.

Here is the list of the likes:
Well built.
Easy to use.
Easily heats my house (open 1,700 s.f. plan).
The heat from the wood burning insert is so much more comfortable than gas heat.
The country look of the unit goes with the rest of the house.
Large glass area for viewing the fire.
If you have hot fires, the glass will stay clear all the time.
gigantic firebox, I can put very long logs in the box.
The extended burn technology works well for overnight burns, lasts 8+ hours.
The fan's automatic on and off. Set on low, medium or high and forget about it.
Top shelf extends beyond the surround for my half pot with water to humidify the room.
I like the ash shelf below the door to collect ashes when I clean the box.
This is a very big unit, so big that it did not fit in my large fireplace box and the installer/dealer had to install a 2.5" black steel filler piece behind the surround. This unit is bigger than I need, but I wanted the freedom of having a large firebox.

Don't likes:
Fan can be a little loud on high.
Sometimes a little rattle comes from the panel in front of the fan. I will fix it if it comes back.
Other than that, not much. Enjoy if you get one.

fire starts easy, straight in fuel load (endeavor had that, but it lacked the capacity of the Jotul and the PE),
fan option (a must for any stove,IMHO, saves on wood)...
the door latches on the outside to prevent wearing down the mechanism.t
he baffle is ultra solid, floats without falling out, and has no tubes or harware hanging down into potential wood loading space..
the firebox is square to take all my funky pieces of wood,
and it has the cleanest glass ever for every stove I have burned at the house and at the shop (which would add way more stoves to the burning resume, btw)...
also gives a good usable burn (to where you can still just throw the wood into it willy nilly and the blower on auto is still operating) of @ 9-10 hrs on ash, poplar, birch and cherry mix I have round here (12 if using some nice maple or red or white oak from the other property we got wood at 'bout 30 mins away).

I've used my new Summit for a couple weeks (rebuilding hearth now, so it's just sitting under a coat of drywall dust :-( ).

It has worked well and I'll defer to the good judgment of those here on its relative merits. It replaced a huge 25 yr old airtight Earth stove, but I've been a little surprised the Summit is not as radiant, doesn't heat as quickly and doesn't burn as long. I'm still getting used to it, so things may improve. Just installed a fan, which seemed to help. It will take a few years to know if less wood is generally burned. If so, I'll be pleased as punch. From felling to loading, wood fuel is fun, but I need to be retired to have adequate time!

I have no complaints and it is great fun to watch the flames.

As long as you know a good welder with a mirror, have a case of baffle gaskets and the mechanical ability to set your new door for a proper seal, then your good to go. :shut:

Sorry, just had to. :zip: Is there any popcorn in the house?
P.S. All in fun

Blaze kings are great stoves.... i just cant convince myself to get over the looks....
i guess i will have to deal with all that stuff....
but when people see my stove they say "wow what a nice fire and stove" ..... not "what is that" :)

I'm warm, and not supporting the oil men. I'm happy.
