A Fair Price for a New Pacific Energy T5
I have decided to buy a T5 after reading so many post here from people that are satisfied with their purchase. I just need to know a fair price to give for one. I've located a store approx. 150 miles from me that has a T5 but I have no idea if what he is asking is fair. Thanks for the replies.
 
The price of these stoves and many others have gone up a lot this year. A friend was quoted $3200 last January.
 
Two years ago it sold for about $2700. The prices of many stoves have gone up this year. Some as much as 50% higher! It's a seller's market due to high demand and lack of supply. Many stove mfgs are 3-4 months behind on supply.

I've had a Lopi for 10 years and have been unhappy because it is too small. I think the ENDEAVOR would be about the size I need and there is a dealer within about 60 miles of me. I don't know if the Lopi stoves have changed for the worse or better, does anyone have the new ENDEAVOR? I was sold on the T5 and I may lose my deposit but from your post it seems to be way over priced. I don't have to have a new stove but reading the posts on here concerning the T5 I caught the fever.
 
I have run both stoves and they are both good heaters. The Endeavor is a standard tube secondary design with a step top and bypass. It's a good workhorse. The PE Super is a more direct comparison to the Endeavor. Both have deep fireboxes for N/S loading. Both of the PE stoves have a full stainless component firebox including the tough stainless baffle and the EBT-regulated secondary air for longer burn time. The T5 has a full cast iron jacket plus the trivet top which adds considerably to the weight and cost but is a very nice feature and a good looker.

Yes, now that you mentioned it, I remember seeing it listed for a little over 2,700 but the shipping was $600.00 from Wa. to Tx. That's when I forgot about it until a few months ago and I found this dealer in Arkansas. It is strange but he only carries the T4, T5 and T6.
 
Yes, they are made in Duncan, BC. The $2,700 price was Tom Oyen's (The ChimneySweep) listed price in WA state. I got my T6 from Tom's shop many years ago.

The T5 is a heavy stove, so shipping costs would add up.

Did you mean that both the PE and the Endeavor have a full stainless component firebox including the tough stainless baffle?
 
From the general direction that pricing has been going this year, I don't think 600 up as compared to last Jan. is overpriced.
If you like the PE, I'd just go for it. The longer you wait, the higher the price is going to be.

One other thing would be to find the next nearest dealer and get a quote to compare. At least it's apples to apples then.
 
The PE Super 27 is $2800 around here. It has the same firebox as the T5 less the cast iron shroud and trivets.

No, the Endeavor has a conventional tube setup and they went from the sturdy firebrick baffle to a baffle board and ceramic blanket to meet stricter emissions requirements. Baffle boards are fragile and need to be treated as such.

All PE stoves use a unique, combination baffle/secondary air distributor box made of stainless. If you bump it with a split, no big deal. The side rails are also stainless. They are long-lasting. Our stove's are going on the 14th season and still in good condition.
 
Get the stove you want. $600 over a 20 year lifespan is $30/year. Thats cheap to get exactly what you want.

The price shot up from $2,700 and some change to $3,799.00 since this summer. Yea, dealers are a problem for me, the closest PE dealer that I could find was 141 miles away.
 
but you could still get a quote to compare, even if the dealer is far away? (Ask them to provide the quote without delivery and install.)

That was what I was wondering about when I stated, I didn't know if the changes make the stove better or worse. So now I know, that they did not improve them but made them more fragile.
 
The new Endeavor is more efficient and cleaner burning, but yes, one needs to be careful not to bump the baffle with a split when loading.

I'm not as young as I once was, I can't see paying almost $4,000 for a stove. It would be $4,000 because I would have to get someone to drive there and bring it to me. If I thought I had another 30 years to live that would be a different story. I don't even know anyone that has lived to be 102 in my family! lol

The dealer that I was conversing with only sold the T4, T5,and T6. I would be happy with the PE Super I think, I will keep looking, maybe I can find one.
 
just because they only stock the Ts, doesn't mean they won't order the Supers. Its easy money for them.

I understand.
I only mentioned this because you questioned the price. I'm not saying this to actually go get it. But a price from another dealer might be a negotiating asset for you to get the price down from the place you want to buy.

Without comparables you are flying in the dark.

I've been searching the web for PE dealers for most of the evening. I haven't found one within a 100 mile radius yet but I'm still looking. The Super Classic LE would satisfy me if I can find one without going 2 or 3 hundred miles to pick it up. I love living in the sticks but it is a problem sometimes. I didn't see a PE Super 27 on the PE web page is this an older model?

That is what I was afraid of, I think I will continue looking for a PE, if I can't find one I'll continue to load up my small Lopi.
