Pacific Summit Series A Handle

I just got a house w a Series A Pacific Energy Summit woodstove, built in May 2001.
The door handle is very loose, wobbles, and can be moved in and out almost a half inch, can be closed tight if done just right, but it wants fixing.
I'm not seeing how to disassemble it, the shaft goes thru a hex shaped, nut looking thing, inset on the outside of the door, and another on the inside, the head on the inside is not inset, can get a pliers on it, but it's not turning.
Any experienced suggestions?

On my 2006 Summit, there was an "S" clip inside that held the latch and washers it pivots on in place. It is stainless steel and will break the minute you try to straighten it. I used a S.S. cotter pin to replace it with, and added a couple washers to take up some of the slack in the latch. You want to add the washers to shim with on the outside, pulling the latch further out, and leaving more room for door adjustment.

Can you post a pic? It sounds similar to my older ('95) Spectrum. The shaft goes thru an insert that is threaded into the door, with a jam nut on the inside. The updated replacement is a bit different design, and I had to drill out the threaded hole in the door.

I found a couple of mine. There is a groove that looks like there used to be an e-clip that kept the handle from moving in and out. That was long gone, and the hole and shaft were really worn.

Wish I could, I'm a dinosaur, no camera or cell phone, and I'm probably leaving the house for the winter in a few days. I bought it w some friends who will be staying here when I leave.
What you describe seems like my set up, perhaps I'll try lubing the inside 'nut', see if I can move it.

Thanks Jeff......your pics look like what I have.
The shaft on this one is also very worn, grooves halfway thru it, so I guess it's time for a new assembly.
Do you remember....was the threaded part fixed to the shaft?

I was wondering if the threaded piece, the one w the nut and washer on it in your first pic, if it was attached to the shaft that goes thru the threaded part, but looking more closely at your pics.....looks like the threaded part was not fixed to the shaft, that the shaft moves freely in the thread piece.
I'll have a better look at mine tomorrow when it's not so hot.

No, it slides back and forth about 1/2".

You should write down the serial number before you leave, so you can make sure you get the right part.

WODC.4147C was the part # Tom sent me, for the universal replacement. WODC.147 is the direct replacement for my stove. Be interested to know if they are the same.

Call Tom's shop. He'll be able to get that part to you lickety split. Any one I've talked to there is more than capable of getting it done, ordered, & shipped.

I ordered my handle, gaskets, etc from Tom's shop. No problemo

The WODC.4147C is the # in the Summit Series B manual.
WODC.4147 is listed in the Series A Summit manual, that's the part # I asked The Chimney Sweep about.
