I just hooked up the thermostat to our pdvc yesterday and can't believe the difference! It's nice to have a nice steady temp instead of having to turn the stove up and down when the weather is 30 deg or above.is it me or has anyone else had their stove seem to run better with the thermostat? My pdvc seems to use a lot less pellets,and doesn't tend to pile up with as much ash as it did prior to hooking it up. Why oh why didn't we do this sooner?just makes me love this stove that much more!

One of the first things I did with mine. I bought a Honeywell stat for heat pumps milli volt output I believe . Right around 30 bucks. Simple 2 wires, remove the jumper on the board. Rarely now does temp overshoot unless its time to shut down anyway during mild weather . I'm sure it's cutting back on pellet useage too

I do sometimes just turn the stat to 90 and run the stove on the setting i choose manually. Mostly when i'm going to be at work. I like to leave it on 3. If its chilly when i get home then i turn it back to 9/9 and use the stat

I just got the Iris Tstat I can regulate with my Iphone from Lowes and it graphs the temp for you! I use it for the Quadrafire stove in my shed!
I wanted to do some work in the shed this afternoon. At noon time it was 27.9 Deg F! Had to turnn the quadrafire on before I went out there! ! ! Brrrrrr!

What happens when temp requirement is met does stove drop to lower setting or just quit feeding pellets?
The Quad goes into shutdown mode and stops feeding to save on pellets when the set temp is met. I set a 2 degree swing with a 70 Deg set point. So when the temp goes below 68 Degs F the stove starts back up. The specially designed loop igniter is very rugged and still lasts along time.

Got it at ace hardware it's just a cheaply lux nothing fancy but does the job paid 13.99 for it and another 5.70 for the wire.
the pdvc just drops to its lowest setting when the temp is met. the thermostat can toggle between lowest setting and the highest setting you set the stove to. for instance, if you set the thermostat to 70f, and turn on the stove and its set to 7/7, when the stat is calling for heat, you are running on 7/7 and when it stops calling for heat, your stove is running 1/1.
Its important you tweak the stove to run well on 1/1 this way. it took some trial and error with the burn air and feed rate. At first 1/1 the fire would peak up and down. sometimes nothing but glowing red pellets until the stove dumped its next batch. smoldering is about the dirtiest burn you can get, so tweak it so that 1/1 always has at least a small flame.
Keep in mind the stove room air fan will not idle down to 1 the room fan will always stay at whatever setting you have the stove set at even when the stat is satisfied.so if have your stove set at 7/7 when the stat hits temp the stove will run at 1/7 when it idles down
This can also cause the room blower to kick off entirely if the heat exchanger gets too cool from the higher fan speed and low fire. I've had it happen on mine and it's always kicked back on in a little while, but it's disconcerting when you hear a fan unexpectedly stop.
interesting, I always thought it also controlled the room blower. I normally just leave my room blower on 9 no matter what the heat setting, in hopes to extract as much heat as possible from the pellets being burned.
If the stat does leave the blower on whatever you have it set to, that is even better.
