Anyone ever have their PE baffle pin disappear? This spring before our first burn I noticed it was gone. I am assuming sometime after my New Years cleaning it went out with the ashes. I am not concerned about it. Once the baffle is sitting on the vertical air tube running up the back of the stove, it can't go anywhere.

I have new pins on the way (a replacement, and a spare) and I am burning without it now.

Yeah, even a 1/4" SS bolt can work in a pinch to ensure it 'locks', but gravity does a lot of that work, too.

PE supply them in ten packs, but I know a lot of dealers keep them on hand to hand out, or sell as a single or pair. Most often it accidentally falls out and ends up getting scooped out with the ashes.

Two important steps when removing the baffle for cleaning a PE stove are:
  • remove the locking pin and set it aside in a good place
  • stuff a rag in the secondary supply tube

I don't think I misplaced the pin, but it is possible. I think it ended up in the ashes and got shoveled out.

I found a supplier on EBay and received my replacement and now have a spare.

PE is not great (for me) when it comes to getting parts. My PE stove shop is over an hour away now, and they don't seem to want to sell parts online. I would love to support the shop by buying parts from them but that is a lot of time on the road and the only day I can get there is Saturday.

To cover the secondary supply tube, I made a little cap that fits over the top. I keep it in a little box with my spare baffle gaskets and now my spare baffle pin.
