If I lived there I believe I would be burning coal still. Over 35 years with coal, only reason I switched to pellets was lack of suppliers of coal up this way and what happens ? Pellets all but dried up on us around here for a while there back in Feb and early March !! First year burning them and a cold winter , inexperienced with pellets. We know to lay in enough now.

There has to be a Tickle Me Elmo feature with pellets that draws everyone to them. To live smack in the middle of coal country where coal is cheap still and be drawn to pellets has to have be to do with something like that ( the latest and greatest fad device every kid wants for Christmas). Just sayin, coal produces cheap long lasting heat by comparison. But it's a loser in today's world, I know we were basically forced out of using it here a long ways from coal country. Not true! The forum is "pellet and multi-fuel". When we see someone contemplating the purchase of a space heater and then later see them complaining because they can't get enough heat out of their pellet stove, we feel remiss in not initially TRYING to educate them about ALL alternatives open to them, especially when they are sitting in the middle of anthracite country. AND Anthracite stoves put out 3 times the btu's of most pellet stoves. AND anthracite has almost twice the btu's per pound of pellets. AND anthracite costs less per ton than pellets.
I was more making conversation than anything, since several places were mentioned where he can get pellets from and I don't live there. It was just an observation ( shoot me I tend to ramble if you haven't noticed ! I went off topic this time sorry). You guys who do live there can burn what ever you like, just sayin. It's like you guys live in the middle of a gold mine but you want to import silver that costs more and is worth less. Some of us up this way would like to get some of that gold that is dirt cheap, no can do stuck with pellets ( not rice anyway which is what a stoker burns).
And since the OP is "open for suggestions" I suggest an avitar related to wood heating.
But you do agree with my premise that It makes sense to mention ALL options available to NEW COMERS looking for suggestions on how to best heat their homes, right? We were out of line jumping into THIS thread and we admit/beg forgiveness for that. If we can't talk about coal as an obvious option for those in much of the NE and Maryland, then we're doing a disservice. I think MtDew missed the point of my response.Since we have no specific forum room for coal burning, and aren't likely to ever have one, the topic pops up sometimes in all of the rooms. And folks asking questions about it are usually pointed toward nepacrossroads.com where the coal burning experts live.
But I agree that it has no place in a thread asking where to buy pellets.
I did not miss your point. I would just like to see topics stay on track so in the future using the search function provides accurate information.
Not a bad price for those. Ray's Greenhouse has not yet given out price for this years early buy. I have checked twice. They carry Barefoot and CountryBoy.
Yea I thought so too. Especially since their prebuy price last year was 250. Rays greenhouse usually doesn't set prebuy prices until July.
As you become more familiar with this great site and spend more time here, you'll see that we DO tend to stray from time to time from our appointed path. Senility is a groan. It's the nature of the beast.
Hopefully, it doesn't happen too often but most times there is still something to be learned as long as eventually we get back on the straight and narrow.
