We operate a winery here in eastern PA and have a large covered porch. Last year so guests could feel safe being outdoors we enclosed 3 out of 4 sides and used propane porch heaters that gobble propane and do little to produce any warming. It worked but it was far from an optimal solution.
This year the plan is to enclose the entire 600 sqft with framed walls and basically t-111 siding and some simple window panels using Lexan twin walled material. So basically a large unheated shed. The main idea is to use a pellet stove to heat the space, provide a little ambiance and give a focal point to the room. The porch floor is concrete. We planned to vent the stove through the wall. Turn on the heater each day and turn off at the end of the day. We only operate Fri-Sun in teh winter.
In the spring we break the walls down into panels and both the panels and stove go into storage until the following fall.
We have looked into other options, we do not have enough electric for electric heaters, low cost LPG garage heaters will rust in the summer and are unsightly, LPG radiant tubes will also rust, attic mounted LPG furnace and spiral duct pipe is over $10,000.
We have also thought about a LPG fired stove since I can purchase at the moment propane at about $2 a gal.
So looking for some sugestionsand a pellet burner seemed to meet the needs? Any thoughts to share?
