I got the following email from pelletsales.com today. What do you think? This may cause me to bite, although I highly doubt they will drop the price between now and October from what I'm seeing......

Seems like places have more stock than they anticipated, as I'm seeing a couple places that are lowering delivery charges. I don't see the cost of pellets going down right now, however. It's anybody's guess what will happen, and the events of the past year should have proven that we aren't very good at predicting the future. If they have the kind of pellets you're happy with and you need pellets, what the heck. I didn't want to play this game of chicken with the pellet distributers! I have enough for next year, but if the prices do come down quite a bit, I still have room in my basement for a couple more tons.

Seems as though they are trying to drum up business which is good for them, but until they offer more pellet choices then LG's (great pellet, too many fines) at a lower price then I can get for an equivalent pellet locally I won't buy from them again. I feel the same way. I was so set on buying all my pellets by the end of may. Now I decided to wait until the end of June. Especially since my local guy has plenty of pellets and they don't seem to be moving as quickly as he wants. I'm hoping to get them for about $250/ton (including delivery).

I too got the postcard, email and phone message.
I wanted to have my supply stacked safely in
the garage before May 1st. The local guy had better
quality pellets for a reasonable price and since I only
needed 2 tons to add to the 1 left over from the 08/09
season, I bought local.

Previously had purchased for three yrs in a row from pelletsales
because they had lower prices than the local folks but not anymore.

The lowest price I've seen locally to me is $279, and I'd have to go get them. I need 3 tons. I can get 3 tons delivered from pelletsales for about $864 and they'll drop them right in front of my garage. Less work for me. Buying local, I'll have to go get them plus pay tax. I figure I'd pay just over $900 after all said and done, plus gas to go get them. As of now, pelletsales seems to be right for me. I'm afraid of playing the waiting game, because as others have said, oil prices are slowly creeping up...

Already stocked for next season tho and only picking up a few bags here
and there of brands I have not tried out yet.

I bought from them last year, but this year I purchased locally instead as
the total cost was cheaper and I got my favorite brand too.

I also received the email, postcard, and phone call. I purchased 2.6 tons last year from Pelletsales, and have purchased from them in past years. I bought Westwood pellets, which were about all that was available. The first skid burned greater, but the second skid produced more ash and didn't seem to burn as well. Comparing the two side by side when I loaded them into the garage, they differed in color. So much that they didn't seem like the same pellets, although according to the very generic bag, they were both Westwood.

When they started pursuing me to buy their pellets beyond the normal early buy email I get, it made me think that they are a little overstocked and are really trying to push orders at these prices. I think I'm going to wait it out a bit and take my chances. Of course, if oil jumps up a huge amount in a short period, I'm sure the supply will dry up quickly.

Also Received An Email, Postcard and phonecall from them, I purchased 3 tons of greenway last year, But their prices are too high even at the current delivery charge, I went Local and picked up Barefoots for 259.00 ton. So Unless they start giving the pellets away at less than 179.00/ton with free delivery I wont bite.... I also have room for at least another 2 - 3 tons if the price was less. Oink !

I reluctantly jumped on the free freight for 6 tons @ $269. I bought 6 tons last year at $244 delivered and still have 2 left. Since we burned 4 tons this year, the most ever for us, 8 tons will give us enough for '09-10 and '10-'11 heating seasons. It might not be the cheapest option this year, it still may, but I'm taking the gamble that the next year it will prove to be a wise choice. And with 8 tons in the basement no one will doubt my Pig status. Oink.

If I were able to buy pellets at what you folks in the mid-west can buy them for (<$200), I don't think I'd bother to burn anything else. Then again, you guys also have cheap electricity and NG...

I just ordered 6 tons of LG Granules for $275/ton (free delivery) from pelletsales.com

I really really didn't want to spend that much but I guess it's better than crossing my fingers & hoping for the best with the oil man...

my gues from reading around their site, is that the "automated prediction software" they use to gues at the market over the next year casued them to over commit to the mills. I started a thread about this farther back and got a number of pellet dealers who say their stock is selling, not sitting around, and that pelletsales price is a little high to take care of the shipping price. Who knows?
We all will find out in 6 months or so, of course the dropping dollar on the world market will contue to cause oil to rise, so american pellets may become cheaper and harder to get, and I think some of the "excess" will disapear when all those newby pellet stove owners start thinking about winter after Labor day.

Well I just confirmed my order for 3 tons of cleanfires from pelletsales. $884 shipped to my house. And with the price guarantee, can't go wrong I guess. The lowest local dealer I found is $279/ton which means I'd have to pick them up and pay tax.

Oh, and the beginning of the month I spoke with a PS rep and told them

Well yeah, I'm actually paying a few bucks less than last year for my 3 tons. I'm also getting my oil tank filled today for $2.12 per gallon. I have a 275 gallon tank and only use the oil as secondary heat, and assuming I keep using pellets, that oil should last me 2-3 years
