I'm a first time pellet stove owner and I just got my first ton of pellets. They are from a company in Illinois and they
are called Pike Pellets, premium. They seem OK to me, but I don't have anything to compare them to. How would you
rate this brand ?

I am on my 2nd ton of Pike pellets. They give off good heat and have few fines. However they do have above average ash. I found that running a little more air helped quite a bit with the ash situation.

Fines is the dust (like sawdust) in the bag with the pellets. To run more air means to give the fire more air (draft).
