Hi, I am trying to bring an 8 inch single wall stovepipe through a wall. I bought a thimble that says it is 8", but the hole on the thimble is about 10 inches. Is there supposed to be a gap of air between the thimble and the pipe so the pipe does not actually touch the thimble?

Any help would be great. thanks!!!

The thimble is for 8" chimney, which measures 10" on the outside. You never want to run single wall pipe through a wall. It's neither safe or permitted by code or insurance. Stop drop and roll!!!!

It's 10" wide because 8" ID chimney pipe is typically 10" OD in diameter. What pipe is being currently used for a chimney?

i was thinking i might need to replace with a double wall. do you know why the hole for a 8" thimble is 10" wide?
8" chimney measures 10" on the outside. It's for double wall class A chimney.
