Hey all,

Recently purchased a home that had a fireplace converted to gas insert. We had a tech out to clean it before using it and he was concerned about this piece of plywood that appears to be shimming the cement board (only on left side) due to combustibility.

The fireplace has been here for probably about 8 years and used by previous owners, and doesn't appear to be any heat marks on the wood, but really don't want to take any chances. Is there anyway to remedy this situation without pulling out the surround and redoing it?

It's an Enviro Focus (https://enviro.com/custom_content/docs/manuals/C-13832 Instruction Focus Owners Manual.pdf)

Thanks for any advice!

Your tech was right it is unsafe that osb can't be there. The only way to remove it is to pull the whole face off

Page 12 of the manual says 9 inches from mantel pillar to the glass door good catch by the tech he is 100 percent right
