Feeling the Heat

I usually have a box fan on in the stove room to circulate hot air from the stove around the house, it just sits on the floor and stirs things up.

Yesterday as my wife was sweeping she moved the fan over and it was pointed at the front of the stove at an angle. The room and the house warmed up considerably so I thought I'd leave it there and see what happened, well this morning (middle of the night I have an early flight this morning) the WHOLE house is in the low 80's every square inch.

Can anyone think of a problem with me doing this?

Is it going to mess with anything like clearances?

I'm loving the amazing amount of heat!

I'll check back later tonight when we get to Denver! (I had to pick the one place colder than Maine to go to!)

I don't know if there are any clearance issues, I used to do that all the time in our old house. The key is the angle. Sounds like your wife hit the sweet spot.

how far away from the stove is it?

how far away from the stove is it?

It's about 8-10 feet from the stove, pointed at a corner of the stove, so not directly at the front...

This is my first burning season and iv been doing the same thing trying to figure out how to get all that heat out of the stove room iv done all kinds of things but blowing air in the room to one side from a distance brings the heat out well. I put a peice of toilet paper hang from the door way taped up and blew air in the paper started to fly out straight into the living room so u could see it work bringing the hot air out as it got replaced with cooler air works like a charm.

8-10 feet...check, angled to point to corner of stove...check. Going to try it this weekend. Up to now, I have had the fan approx 25 feet away blowing cold air from the end of the house that has the bedrooms. Hall leads to stove room. moderate improvement only. Will move the fan closer and angle it - thanks

You basically just added a homebrew convection blower to your stove. Nothing to worry about at all, glad its working out so well!

I use two fans in my stove room: one a few feet from the stove blowing cool floor air behind it, that I run almost constantly, and one in a doorway blowing cool floor air from other rooms into the stove room, that I run occasionally (when very cold).

The only time I don't run the stove fan is immediately before and immediately after I bring it to temp to engage secondaray combustion, because I'm trying to get the fire as hot as possible in that short window and don't want to cool the stove down.
