My current homeowners insurance did its yearly increase so thought I would shop around. After filling out the online quote application at Progressive dot com they just flat declined to provide coverage because I have 2 wood burning fireplaces in the house. Maybe the age of the house had something to do with it but they didn't specify. Thought it was interesting and a little annoying.

Without having your stove's listed in your sig line, I'm not sure what you are working with. But if your stoves are not UL-approved (older stoves) that can be an issue for many insurance companies as well.
My cabin has had a hard time with insurance due to being a part time residence and non-UL approved stoves in it. We were able to get approved for a new policy with Millville Mutual Ins Co.

Insurance companies are a bit odd.
Some will not offer any coverage for homes with woodstoves.
Some will offer coverage . . . but increase the premium.
Some will offer coverage . . . and not increase the premium . . . but have additional requirements such as professional installation or inspection.
Some will increase the premium and do the additional requirements.
Some will just take down the information, thank you for the business and that's about it.
It really does pay to look around.

Never had a problem with Nationwide in the past or presently with Cincinnati Insurance Co. Cincinnati paid(after deductible of coarse ) for my chimney to be lined after a chimney fire last winter. I sent Cincinnati the chimney sweep report, pictures, and estimate and 2 weeks later I had a check in the mail!
Could be a progressive insurance issue. Cheap for a reason
! My son-in-law is a lawyer and said they are the worst to deal with. And my daughter got her car totaled by a punk with progressive that was clearly his fault and progressive was slow wanting to settle and tried to put 20% blame on my daughter. I burn wood in a wood stove and State Farm has never said a word. Higher premiums maybe but they have treated me well enough for 45 years.....

I have Met Life and am coverd as renter in my buddies house I'm renting from him. I listed the woodstove as secondary heat source and they covered me no questions asked. Just had to send a picture of th UL listing tag.
They all have their own way of covering woodstoves. Shop around and find one that suits you!
