Feeling the Heat

I MIGHT have an issue with the IR I reserved as far as depth clearance.

So, the Cape was MY pick but I negotiated with the wife and got IR. How's it fare to the Cape?

The IR is a long established, strong performer. The Cape Cod is a newcomer, still stretching its legs.

The big thing that I liked about the CC was there are two levers. That's it. Easy for the wimins to operate. And...that big ol plate pf glass was SLICK looking. Also, on a more technical aspect...it burned a 0.45 emission rate and it didn't have Quads baffle lid that flips up and down. BUT...it just looked and felt like the Quad would pump out more heat. Idk. I just hope the Quad fits though.

No need to guess. Get some cardboard and make either a floor footprint or a full mock up of the IR and see how it fits.BTW, a hearth can be extended or a flue pipe offset. Where there's a will there's often a way.

How'd the wine treat you last night?

I'm almost positive it's gonna fit. I'm an ironworker by trade. I did some fit checks lastnight with some make shift squares and some edges. I did find out...my DW sits on my mantle now about 1.5 inches out of square. I just need to grab a few tools from work to make sure.

I'm still going to call the dealer though today. They open at noon.

The quad will not pump more heat than the Cod! I've had experience with the Quad and owned a Cod. The Cod throws more heat from the glass than most stoves ever though about!

Which is odd. The Quad is rated for more squares.

At the risk of warping components? Did you have control over the maximum output? Or did it just like to run very hot?

The quad only has two control levers. The one on the side moves the baffle for top loading

Right. Which I really liked compared to my DW 2462. And the wife could easily operate it. We went with the IR however. It is rated for more squares which is what we need. And, we got what I think is a steal on it. $2400 for the mahogany enamel...which MSRP on the matte black is $2700. The MSRP on the enamel is like $3300.

Ya, it had good control. The baffle is made from thin SS, its like a spring, I can't see any way it wouldn't warp with the current design. It needs some reinforcing. I got my new one under warranty and it was the same.

Doesn't it have a primary air control, start-up air control and a baffle lever?

I totally read that wrong the Quad has primary, the baffle, and start up. Just more to confuse to confuse the wife. I've explained the DW like 70 times.

Yes - two control the fire. One moves the baffle. Hard to confuse their purpose. Honestly, if this confuses a user I would be weary of allowing them close to the dish washer or operating a car.
