I am going to add a 32x28 addition on my house with a basement under it. I have always wanted a fireplace and there is a guy I work with that has one he wants to sell. He bought it new about 5 years ago and used it two years before he took it out for insurance reasons. It is a Quadra fire 7100 fp. It has been sitting on his porch for awhile and there is some surface rust in spots on the door. He says it has the blowers in it to where you can duct heat to another room of the house. Also has an outside air pipe kinda like a pellet stove. It says it will heat up to a 3500 sq ft home. Was thinking this may work good for a duct into the basement. He said he gave like 4000 for it when he bought it. He wants $700 for it and he has the chimney pipe with it. Are these good fireplaces? And is this a good price?

The reviews on the forum are generally very positive for those units. They are beautiful when installed. $700 is a very good deal if the unit is in good working condition. I'm sure others will chime in on this. I hate the fact that it has been sitting on your friend's porch. Good luck!

If it's in good condition, the chimney pipe alone could be worth $700. Look it over carefully for damage or misuse, but this could be the steal of the decade.

PS: I'm curious about the insurance issue. Did he say why this came up?

He said it had something to do with clearance issue. They wanted it to have more clearance so he just took it out.

Have you searched any of the posts on the forum about that unit? You will find some beautiful installs.

If it's in good condition I'd be over there in the next 5 minutes. Even if you don't install it, this should have good resale value.

BeGreen has given some sound advice here (what else is new). I would jump on that sucker.
