We bought a house a week ago in MA. It has a septic system that passed title 5 and we did have a home inspection before buying. 3 days of living there and the dishwasher broke so we bought a new one and tried to have it installed this past saturday. The installer looked over the system and told us we have a non-regulation system and was surprised the inspector didn't see it.
Apparently in MA all plumbing needs to be discharged into the septic system, but in our house the kitchen sink and dishwasher discharge into what the installer called a dry well.
Any explanations on MA plumbing code and regulations would be appreciated, I tried reading through the actual regulations and couldn't understand most of it.
The house was completely redone inside 2 years ago so the septic system and all the plumbing is only 2 years old (late 2013)
