We will be getting new carpet in the house this summer. The wife asked if the hearth board can be re-tiled. It is a off the shelf corner hearth board. The stove is a 2006 BK princess. My question is, does anyone know if this is just regular tile? It feels almost like a woven fiberglass. I am also unsure of the substrate and did not want to damage it by removing the old tiles. Especially if it is glued down. Thoughts or ideas? Pretty sure the brand name is stamped on the underside so finding out what that is, is a no go for awhile.

This is really a question for a tiling forum.

there are mortars that can be used to re-tile directly over the old tile
as long as it is still solid, just need to clean all dirt/wax/oil from the surface first.
