Last Dec. I had our local Top Hat Chimney repair come to replace and inspect my fireplace as the back refactory insert had a crack (prefab type). At that time they cleaned and did a full inspection. The bottom line was replace the back insert, clean and replace the chimney pan with a stainless steel model. I asked several questions about the life expectancy of the panel, other options etc. I was told that seasoned properly this panel would last years and that it was the best course of action. The total bill for the work performed was between $1400-1600.

Several days after the work was completed I made the first of a total of 4 smaller fires according to instructions; after which we had approximately 2 or 3 larger and longer fires before the season ended. Upon cleaning the fireplace in March I notice yet another hairline crack in the back insert. Given the lack of response by Top Hat Chimney Sweep (no other company available in the area) im looking for a dyi repair that can be done, such as a repair cement or bond. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Sorry to hear of the problem. Do you have any pics of the issue?

Please excuse the lack of photography skills. I'm including the pic of the model number of the fireplace as well in the event that it makes a difference.
