Do you think its possible to install a Regency 2400 but use the surround for the Hampton? I've looked at the specs and I think it might work, and since they are from the same manufacturer...

We just can't get past the big black plain panels of the Regency surround, but we otherwise like the Regency unit over the Hampton. We plan on doing everything in flat black so I was hopeful that the finishes would match. I know we would have to pay extra for the Hampton surround but it would be like getting the best of both worlds.

I've been reading on the forums that some people don't even use the surround, anyone have pictures of this? or alternative ideas?

If you can get the legs to mount to the sides of the I2400M box, you'd probably be able to do it. You may hafta remove the top flange from the Regency box as well, since that's where the top (cross) panel sits. Another option is to cut the Regency surround down somewhat. I did that for my younger sister. She had a field stone fireplace with an arched top, so I made a template out of cardboard & cut the sides & top with a metal-cutting blade in my jigsaw used a grinder to get them to fit just within the opening. Unfortunately, she sold the house last January & I don't know the new folks or I'd go in there to get a pic of it...
