Hi, I've been scouring the web for over a week and found this forum and I hope someone here can help me. This is what I'm working on. I recently came into possession of an old cylinder style top loading coal stove that had been in storage (a barn) for about 50 years. The cast iron pieces are all in really good shape but the firebrick is completely shot and the steel barrel portion is pretty decent but I've decided not to reuse it in favor of fabricating my own. My problem is that I haven't been able to find any firebrick to fit a round barrel shape and I am wondering if it is possible to cast my own or use some sort of cement to line the inside. The stove is an old Locke and I plan on using it to heat a workshop. I will only be burning wood and not on a daily basis. Is there something I can use? And where would I look for it? I can use any ideas, thoughts and suggestions.
FWIW I'm not new to woodstoves and currently heat 1500 sq. ft. with a Napoleon 1100 and am pretty handy and creative when it comes to building things. I just need some inspiration.....
