So, it seems that the cotter pin was bent around the interior part of the door handle when the stove was installed.

Tried unbending the pin, and it snapped on both sides of the interior part of the handle, with just enough of the old pin left that the "inside of the stove part" of the handle won't come through the door.

Thoughts????

I can still fire off the stove tonight, so we won't freeze, but I've got to replace the handle.

Any way to push a nail though the cotter key hole to push the old piece through?

Doesn't seem to be enough "play" room

Took some pics. No cell phone currently, and the Canon is acting up. Last one looks to be the best.

help !!

Well, I'd probably try hammering an ice pick or thin finish nail or maybe an allen wrench to try to dislodge the stuck cotter pin. Of course, I'd probably break the door glass while I was at it ;em

Any way to get a file or dremmel grinder in there and smooth off the nubs? Then, once the handle is out, you can push or drill the rest out...

How the heck did you get the washers off? Your going to have to either grind the nub off with a small dremmel tip or similar, or try and push it through. You may be able to turn it and try pulling it though at the same time. Might wear the pin or the door enough to allow it to come through. You can get a replacement s.s. cotter pin at the local hardware store.

Do us a favor, when you reinstall the handle give a us a few photos of what order the washers go back on in? I forgot when I did mine and just winged it best I could figure.

Success!!! I took the door with me out to the barn where Dix & Matisse live, who just so happen to be a family of plumbers

First they tried rasping the pin down, then said screw it and brought out a wheely pipe cutter thing (I have no idea what it was, sorry) and cut the inside part of. Presto changeo !!!

Hogs, after I broke the first part of the pin, I gave up. The Dixette tried, and broke off the other half of the pin. When I got home, the inside washer was already off. And sorry, no pics of the reinstall, sorry. I went to throw the old parts out, and when I got back the handle was on. And it works, so I'm not messing with it.

Tomorrow, the new door gasket!!! Tom sent me the heavier rope one that you like, so I'm off to search for that info ;)

Found it, the tool looked like this

I think the angle grinder was a little over-kill but it did the job. Every time I try to use one in tight spaces the object I am trying to cut is usually not the only fatality.

Glad it worked and hope the gasket goes in easily. Have a good burning season.

They pulled it out of a tool box on the back of the plumbing truck. Sparks were flying for sure, but, he knew what he was doing, so no harm done. Except for the burn on his finger when he picked up the piece that got cut off

Make sure the ends of the pin are as flat against the washer under it as possible. It it is sticking up at all, it may catch the gasket as it is spinning around when you turn the handle.

Hey Dix, I liked that part about the "wheely pipe cutter thing." Nice touch! Hope you got things all put back together.
