I paint mine and the firebox every spring keeps rust from starting. Usually burns off during the heating season

Feeling the Heat
Oh, I never painted my last one in 28 years, no rust, so I didn't paint the new one just replaced due to heat induced warpage & cracks. The 4 nuts were not stuck but just a slight turn and removed with fingers, gasket was even OK.

humidity in the summer here will do some damage. i get a lot of boards with switches and corrosion
