I currently have a Xtec insert. It is very similar to this (made by them originally):
(broken link removed to http://www.highvalleystoves.com/insert2500.php)
This is attached to a nice double walled insulated stainless linver.
Problems I have with the Xtec:
- Glass is always dirty.
- To get good air flow, you need to have blower cranked up.
- Air flow horrible (see above).
- Overkill for our home. It is about 4' from where we site. With only a few logs, the living room can get too hot as TN does not usually get cold enough for this stove.
- You need to sit directly in front of it to see the fire.
What I would really like to do is have just a fireplace for ambience not heating. From what I have read, that may be very difficult to do as the original damper has been removed, etc.
Is there anything I could put into that fireplace opening that would hook up the existing liner?
How would I put a damper into that?
Can you recommend a smaller stove with huge viewing area?
Any other ideas? Thanks.
