I recently purchased a replacement door gasket for my 2012 Princess Ultra. I was hoping to get an authentic Blaze King gasket based on comments posted here by @BKVP on how it is indeed special.
I found that this website lists the gasket with the SKU: 0186A-6FT
(broken link removed to https://www.woodstove-fireplaceglass.com/products/blaze-king-door-rope-gasket-7-8in-x-6ft?_pos=1&_sid=a39d37a00&_ss=r)

I received it, expecting it to be in a package. It's just bulk gasket in a box. I e-mailed them asking for clarification:

Hello,
I see you have a Blaze King door gasket listed on your site. Is this the official blaze king rope gasket kit or a bulk cut from a roll? Thank you very much!
I received the following response:
It is cut from a bulk roll - same stuff.....Blaze king does not make it.

I'm not 100% convinced. Has anyone else bought from these guys and know if it's the real deal? I suppose I'll try using it. Attempting to get a local BK dealer to order the official gasket has been... challenging. They all want to sell me bulk gasket.

If you have a couple of extra inches of the gasket, cut it and send it to me and I can tell you if it is the same.

Thank you for the offer! I suspect I will have a decent amount of extra, I will send it to you for "analysis"

It's good to check and kind of BKVP to verify. I ran into the same thing will a well established PE dealer. They only sold the bulk roll stuff and it definitely was not OEM nor did it work as well.

I've struggled with my local BK dealer to get authentic BK gaskets as well. The door and window gaskets I eventually received were just in a Ziploc bag, and looked pretty similar to generic gaskets, so I'm not sure if I just paid a premium for whatever they had on the shelf or if they actually ordered it from BK.

Secret tip. Just ask the dealer to have the order drop shipped to your home. That means it leaves here, in a zip lock bag but the package shows it came from our facility.

I’ve done this and it worked great. Dealer had no problem with it. Probably faster than BK shipping to dealer and then dealer shipping to you or you going to pick it up.

Good to know, thanks for the tip.

Update: I just got around to installing this gasket that I purchased.. Right away is it apparent that this is not the same product that Blaze King uses and likely won't work well with any Blaze King stove.
It is far more malleable than any of the old gasket which came out -- even accounting for age, and as a result when trimmed to length it essentially gets swallowed up by the door channel and does not create a good knife edge seal on the gasket. In fact, with the door adjustment all the way in there is more than a quarter inch of volume missing.,

The actual Blaze King gasket is far more rigid and stiff , likely some kind of high / medium density gasket. This gasket you can nearly pinch all of the way through, seems more like a off the shelf Rutland gasket than anything else. I'll be calling around to my local dealers that sell Blaze King stoves trying to get one to drop ship as @BKVP suggested.

Just stumbled across this thread ... My second attempt to source the proper material for my door gasket, although it was called Total Hearth (but link in your OP sent me to the same place), was the same as yours. And although it was better than my first attempt (https://pellet-stove-parts-4less.com/collections/blaze-king-princess-pej-1006) it was still clearly not the right stuff.

This situation is atrocious.

It's definitely a hassle for folks in a rural area to have to drive an hour just to get a stove gasket because the manufacturer doesn't allow any online sales. This is the case with PE stoves and it sucks. It's ok to sell online in Canada, but not in the US. Tom Oyen was the only US dealer who could do this because he was grandfathered in.

Let me write this again. We have our gasket made for us. Sometimes our dealers sell online. There is no way to know if it is our OEM item (cats/gaskets/glass) unless a buyer were to say, "please have it dropped shipped to me". Then the return address on pkg will show it came from beautiful Walla Walla.

The hearth industry is served by hundreds, perhaps thousands of suppliers. I've been accused of trying to "sell" our OEM items and even asked to "prove it".

Send me a PM when you place your order, and name of dealer, I'll include something to prove it's genuine!

You're not hearing us, Chris. People shouldn't have to go through this to source an essential maintenance part. So we're supposed to get on the phone and make as many calls as it takes and hope to find somebody who is willing to deal with an out-of-region customer, and understands this gasket is special, and knows about getting it drop-shipped from Walla Walla ? I tried this 4 or 5 times earlier today with no luck. My wife overheard my frustration and said "are you sure you should be recommending this stove to people ?"

Yeah, it's kinda ridiculous that blaze king recommends you to use OEM parts but they are so difficult to source. They tell you to go to the dealer and the dealer gives you aftermarket parts. No bueno.

That can work. I wish I had that option. The PE OEM gaskets come in a sealed (or stapled) package with the part number and logo on the PE label. Are the BK gaskets sold the same way?

FWIW, it's not just BK. I had a local PE dealer of good reputation sell me an inappropriate door gasket "off the reel" for our stove. It definitely did not work, to the point of being unsafe.

We have over 600 dealers in the USA. Dealers purchase the products they need from multiple sources.

Yes.

Yes.

Why is that? All dealers I go to sell only OEM parts. I.E. I can't go to a Ford dealer and buy aftermarket parts. When you go to the dealer the expectation is you will be getting only OEM parts. Aftermarket parts have there place and I do use them at times but you don't go to the dealer to get them.

Though that may be generally true for a car dealership but many stove shops sell multiple brands of stoves. As noted, I had Seattle's top dealership sell me a non-PE door gasket. They sell Jotul and VC stoves as well as PE. The guy who sold me the bulk gasket was definitely a salesperson and not a service person. Perhaps they keep the OEM gaskets on their service trucks? IDK. Caveat emptor.

All,

I bought AFR race cylinder heads across the counter at the local Chevy dealer. When you go to the Chevy dealer, he sells Chevrolet. When you go to a fireplace shop, they sell products from dozens of manufacturers. When you need that OEM part and they don't have it, the auto dealer parts guy orders it for you. Or, he sells you another brand or a better water pump than OEM. Manufacturers cannot possibly control all the parts, access to parts and various suppliers they should do business with. It might even be an antitrust issue to try!

What has changed is the number of companies "branding" themselves with manufacturers logos and names. If we had millions to spend on attorney's it might help for a while, until the offshore vendors start doing that...oh wait they have and we know this in the world of combustors.

Sorry but the solution that thousands of folks use every year is to order from the dealer and have it drop shipped.

Thank you for pointing out the bad players, we will look into those.

The problem with online ordering is that one has no idea of who is filling the order. It could be some $15/hr. mail room person that doesn't know the difference. I like the option of factory drop shipping and will ask PE sales to institute this policy in the states.

@BKVP can you please name a dealer or two who will actually do that ?

Well, maybe 4th time is the charm. Ordered this from Hechlers after an email exchange (with an actual Hechler no less). I wrote:

Is SKU# 0186 ...

https://hechlers.com/product/7-8-blaze-king-wood-stove-door-gasket-6ft-0186/

... a genuine OEM part ? Blaze King sources a very specific high density gasket material and I want to make sure I'm getting the right thing.

to which he responded:

0186 is the exact same that BK used to carry and no longer do, it’s the same manufacturer

Dan Hechler

Fingers crossed.
