Reseal chimney pipe

After cleaning the stove yesterday I noticed a small amount of smoke from a chimney seam at start up. I do have smoke/fire, and CO detectors. Nothing has alarmed.

I searched and found a link for this high temp tape. (broken link removed)


Will this suffice to fix the leak until the end of the season and we have the yearly maintenance completed? The thread I found the link in was from 2013 so not sure if there are newer or better solutions out there now.

Aluminum foil tape works fine. I used it when I did the temporary hookup of my used stove out in the garage. It may cost a bit more than $6.98 though but you can also get it back off. You can also use the rest sealing some of your ductwork joints. Not sure how the black tape would come off or what it consists of. If you take a heat gun to the foil tape it comes off pretty easily.

On my exhaust pipe runs that can stay together without cleaning interference I high temp silicone those by running a neat bead inside where they couple together. That way there are no ugly, sloppy finger artworks outside. IF you have to take them apart it's a PITA but think it thru and there will be none of that.

I have recommended the silicone self bonding tape several times. Easy to use and keep neat and pretty easy to cut on the pipes seam to take apart. No wrinkles in it like foil tape to leak not that foil tape does not have its stove uses and other pyrotechnic purposes.

Thanks. Just wanted to check around with folks in the know. Plus the black tape is a little less conspicuous which my wife likes since the stove is in our family room.

Works great and is less filling, besides if it meets the temperature requirement and keeps the wife happy at the same time you have a double win.

On the first part you are good to go (I just checked the specs on that one to make sure that things would be good to go).
