I have a 2500 sq ft farmhouse and recently sold my Harman Accentra 52i. I purchased an unused Rockland 550 CB years and years ago before I knew there was more to fireplace(sizing and what not) than holding flames. I have a straight shot 26 ft chimney exterior stainless liner After lurking on here, I decided it might be better to just get a bk princess and selling the Jotul for burn times, heat capacity and resistance to overfire.
I was wondering if there would be a major benefit of the BK over the Rockland to justify the cost.

I can’t speak to the BK but I have used the Rockland for last 14 yrs. I does a nice job of heating about 1600 sq ft in southern New England. Something’s I don’t like about the Rockland is the lack of a good ash lip. Major inconvenience with ashes falling out of stove and getting into blowers. Minor thing is the air control level is very small. I think it was made with aesthetics as primary factor. Decent heater though. I would think another factor is that the BK will have the ability to heat “slow and low” which I would imagine makes heating in the “shoulder seasons” ( fall and spring ) a little easier.

Yeah, this is a common flaw of flush inserts. One really needs to be sure the blower is off when anything disturbs the ash. Other than that, the Rockland is a nice heater and good looking insert.
