Hello,
I would like to install a propane fueled Napoleon Vittoria fireplace in a newly remodeled second floor bedroom.

It will be directly above the main wood burning fireplace that is in the living room on the first floor, so when I open the wall to re frame, I’ll be looking at the bricks chimney that runs up thought the center of the house.

My question is, can I run the gas line from the basement to the new second floor fireplace up the outside of the chimney?

And if I want to sink the fireplace unit back into the wall, could I hang a shelf on the brick itself to support it?

Thanks!!
