I'm currently looking at adding a DV propane gas fireplace to my house. It's an early 1800s all brick home. 3600 sq ft, 3 stories. Exterior wall insulation is non existent, roof is probably R30. Windows are single pane with storms. Main heat source is heat pumps which do a decent job, but gets expensive in the below freezing temperatures. Plus who doesn't like a fire. Unfortunately, the house has no accessible chimneys. They appear to have an been filled / removed from the roof during the history of the home.
The room is about 500 sqft (9 ft ceilings) and opens to the rest of the first floor with two open doorways, one which leads to the main stairs to the upper floors .
Mainly looking for recommendations / sanity check on target BTU as well as feedback on how important turndown is. I've been looking at Regency G800EC (25k btu) a couple FPX models (30k or 35k btu) and a Mendota FV41 (40k btu). I know G800P is a higher output option from regency, but somewhat concerned about the turndown of these units.
