I am seeking info (brand, model, specs) on a stove for sale online. The seller isn't able to get me much info beyond a single photo because it is in a rental unit not near his home. It would be a good drive for me, so I'm trying to figure out if it is worth any effort. For $400, it seems worth considering.

Does anyone know what this might be? Thanks in advance.

I think I'd put the $400 toward a Drolet

Keep your $400 i'd think. Find a stove with secondary combustion.

Its an old consolidated Dutch west an early and very very good for its day cat stove. If the inner top plate and bypass assembly arent warped its absolutely worth $400 and can still serve you well. If there is warpage there is can definitely be fixed but probably not worth 400

Thanks bholler,
That sure looks like the stove. Maybe I will make the time to check it out.
Cheers
Here is a post I found.
I was actually wondering why it had the vents in front. You would never see those on a "metal box" stove.

Whitenuckler:

That is very sage advice in that thread. Thanks for sharing.
The rusty Drolet Pyropak for $300 is looking better by the moment!
To be honest I didn't read it, but it sounds like you figured it out. I was going to ask BHoller what would be involved in
taking something like that apart. I have never rebuilt a woodstove before.
I looked up Pyropak and found parts: and the manual
It looks like a decent stove. Can do outside air and have a blower too. I don't think it's a secondary burner,
but it's EPA certified and would be good for your cabin.

You see them all the time on stoves with a connective top. These are a little different the cat is in a chamber under that top and above the inner top. There are connective channels on the sides of that.

It is a secondary combustion stove. So is the Dutch west. The drolet is secondary air the dw is a cat stove

Thanks for the quick lessons, folks. Greatly appreciated.
The parts availability of the Drolet is a huge plus.
Parts are still available for the Dutch west as well but not cheap

CDW was early 90s. That’s a lot of thermal cycles. Not sure if it’s been cared for in a rental.

Personally, I’d go for the Drolet. The. CDW was good in its day, but none of us are what we were in the 90s.
