September is right around the corner - time to move stacks

In a couple weeks September will be here, it is time to move my single stacks together and tarp them, I will be burning probably by the end of October /beginning of November, My wood stacks this year are very dry and it would be a disservice to my stove if I let the fall rains soak in the firewood. I just cant believe how fast the time is going, it feels like I just spit this stuff

Yup it's getting to that time of year again. I've got to pull the cover over a partial cord stack that's slated for use this winter. It was left over from last year, I moved it to make room for this year's work.

I've read a lot of postings on whether rain has much effect or not, but why would you even take that chance? I certainly haven't hit my theoretical goal of "never wet", but my two main stashes are under roofs now. Still have a lot of work to do on stash #3.

I look forward to moving this year's wood to the shed. I have stacks here and there in the back of my property. More and more I find myself looking at them and pondering which ones will go in the shed first. The rainy season starts in October so I'll have them moved sometime next month.

I am also looking forward to moving the wood into the barn.
But I can say that my kids are not that excited haha.
I am looking at trying out a few new systems for the barn to hold the wood and make it cleaner so I will take pics when I do it and compare them to my avitar.

I made sure to put up an extra half cord this year since the winter was so bad last year. I am still trying to get more than a year ahead and hopefully by spring I will be.

I move my stacks to the woodshed in the Spring . . . mainly because I just like the feeling I get when I look at a full woodshed.

Then again . . . the wood I am going to burn this season was already in the woodshed two years ago.

This is year #3 for my oak stacks. Been top covered since June and have started to move them into the shed. The Mrs has had some weird scheduling lately that has 4 or 5 days off in a row and has actually wanted me to park a truck load at the shed so she can unload....nice!

10 cord in the racks up to the ceiling. If I can get my buddy to come with the gravel and expand my pad area.. I'll get to finally move 15-16 wood and put my metal roof scraps on them.. then I'll be done. Splitting into 16-17 stash now.

Great post.... This week I have been testing my different stacks and now know which ones are for the upcoming season, I have a long single row to stack right outside my garage door that I use, I tarp it from the top creating a tent effect, it's about 25' long single stacked about 4-5 ' high then I drape the tarp from the top to the bottom, when cold weather hits, I will start bringing in a face cord or so at a time. I hate getting "my ready wood" rained or snowed on"
Last year was a good learning experience so hopefully this year will go much better....
