Sheer winds from He! !

Last night I mowed the lawn and then went in for a nap. When I went in it was almost 90F and really sunny out no clouds. about 30 minutes later I woke up to thud thud thud BANG buzz no power. What the heck was that ! I looked outside and the the rain was going sideways if not upward so naturally my first thought was tornado after all this is Michigan. Then it occurred to me that the car across the street was raising a good 6" off the ground then dropping again and that was the front end Next I looked out back and my 60lb park bench was flying through the air like it was a marshmallow but there was no tornado warning. It was just plain sheer winds Know I have been all across the country seen twisters and even strong sheer winds from time to time but that was just plain insane. The bang was my antenna which is bolted into studs and installed on a 1/4 inch thick poll getting bent like a toothpick and slamming into the roof over and over and over My chimney by the grace of god was still setting there but the top piece was a little sideways.

While all this was going on I was trying in vein to call my wife who was just in front of the storm to tell here to find a house and get off the road fast. When I finally got a hold of here she was at her sisters down the road about 2 minutes ahead of the storm so I said wait it out you will see why. Thank goodness she did it went through there with a little less energy but it was still very strong. I think somebody was watching over our area because out of that monster storm nobody in the village or surrounding area was hurt to my knowledge.

Whoa, Dude. Glad it all worked out.

I had a sheer tear through my place (several years ago) and literally lifted an out building (garage) and turned it upside down in my yard. My truck was in the garage and never was touched. The building landed 20 ft from the foundation, on its roof.

Wow, wild weather for sure. Good to hear that you are alright. That must have been quite an experience.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, or in other words, just 20 miles or so north of Pete, it was windy in the afternoon but as soon as the storms came it was pretty quiet here. We got rain and lightning but that is all. Slept with a window open by the bed and the danged thunder kept waking me up all night. I don't have the rain gauge out yet so unsure of how much rain we got but it was a good soaking for sure.

Went in to work this morning about 1:00 just to see if the generator had came on or not.(I have about 10 minutes before the fish start dying without O2). Everything was fine and then when I was coming back about 1:30 the wind picked up and rained so hard I could hardly see stopped at the Shell station for about 3-4 minutes and then it was fine. I have heard that we got anywhere from 3-5 inches (depending on what farmer is the biggest liar at the coffee shop)!

Thanks guys it was a wild ride for sure ! Jags there was a bunch of shingles all over the road on my way to the shop this morning but no garages thank goodness Thanks Begreen we are all safe. Dennis we have a aluminum bucket that had about 4" of rain water in it this morning ! Glad the fish are ok Gary thats a lot to loose!

I have not head of a shear wind before, but where I live it's sort of a wind tunnel. Most falls/winters will we get ugly storms with gusts hitting 60-70mph. Stuff that you'd never think of end up flying away... I have seen even big dumpsters get slid around a parking lot!

With I-75 closed due to flooding, I don't think they were lying, at least around Flint.

The fire cheif said we saw 90 mph wind gust in short bursts !

I had a 5 ft pole in the garage so it is remounted it was 10 ft but after that I think it is gonna stay 5 ft.
Flint did get hammered pretty good from what the news was saying maybe worse than us in some spots !

I dont think I would pay for cable or satelite ever again too much of nothing ! I suppose a new antenna is far less than cable or satelite in the long run so I am happy ! Besides we sit in the middle of three decent size cities which means we get roughly 40 channels.

Pete, I went out today and I see the rivers are all very high. Some flooding over by Brant. Of course we are high and dry here on the sand. I do not doubt the 4" or possibly more based on the river height.

The maple is very high in town here Dennis higher than I have seen in a couple years.
