My traditional vet is recommending something new to me called Shen Calmer to see if it helps an aging (16 yrs old) cat make less noise at night. The cat is otherwise healthy - has had a full checkup to rule out other potential causes - but has been meowing incessantly at night for about 6 months now.

I think she does it for attention and does not seem to be in any discomfort . But it is causing us to experience long term impacts from poor sleep due to her loud meowing.

I'm not a big believer in magical supplements but will try anything at this point. I haven't seen the pricetag yet either...

Give it a try . What have you got to loose at this point
You mite even get a good nights sleep.
By the way never heard of the product what is supposed to do ?

Try adding a night light to the area where she sleeps at night. As they get older, their vision and cognitive ability start to go and it's worse at night. Sometimes a bit of light helps them to see better and that calms them.

My (at the time) 3 yr old dog was having endless issues mainly stomach and digestive related, which throws the rest of the body out of whack too. Two local vets and two highly rated and educated specialists (tufts being one of them). No one was able to pin point anything or improve his condition for any amount of time.
Took him to the local holistic vet. Immediately spotted his problems with commercial food, even the $4lb. specialized food. Changed him to a home made diet (actually less money than I was spending) and that cured the bulk of it.
Been back and forth with some herbs and supplement. If it looks like it's working and not too much $$ I use it. Research everything first as much as you can. A lot of pet herbs are just called by a name like "smiling dog" "happy earth" etc and only list ingredients as "proprietary blend" I personally didn't touch any of those. I won't put something unknown into me and I won't do it to my pets either.
In summary, if u know what it is, give it a shot as long as a Google search checks out on it too.
