Its 70 degrees and tried to start a fire with new blaze king sirocco 30. It will burn with door open but goes out when I close the door. Is it a draft problem? No smoke comes out of stove when have door open. Or is it just to warm out for good draft?(broken image removed)

Weird. Sounds like it's not getting air. Could the intake have something in it? Maybe some kind of shipping packing. Could the linkage be unhooked?

How long has the wood been dried?sure sounds like wet wood exaggerated by low draft conditions

Wood is 15% moisture checked with meter. It seems to be burning better know. I think having it 70 degrees and 90% humidity might have a little to do with it also??

Is that the first fire? The firebricks often hold some moisture that needs to be driven out. Plus, at those outside temps draft will be a problem. How tall is the flue? Is it insulated?

Btw. Really nice setup.

Thanks. No insulation. It is such a tight fit down the chimney it wouldnt fit with the insulation. I think there is a pour type I can get and pour down the chimney?....and yes its the first fire.

My 20 will not start wioth the door closed when its warmer out. Just leave the door cracked till the fire starts going well then close it.

Looks like your bypass is closed in the pic. Did you get it up to temp before closing it?

It burned good with bypass closed and on about 2.5. I turned it down for the night to 1.5 and it smoldered out at some point. Going to try again today. I have about 16 feet of chimney so I think I should draft enough. Might just be to warm out. It is still august.

If it is warm out the lack of decent temperature difference from inside to outside will cause a draft issue. Bigger the temperature difference the stronger the draft.

On another note, that's a damn nice install!!!

Got a good fire going this morning. 2.5 works good. If I go below that it seems to smolder out. Not sure if its just to warm out or a draft issue.
We can all recall Zanny's issues with the Ashford 30. His stack was not long enough to sustain draft..but it was winter. He found the fire went out on low but produced good flame.

The dealer added 4' of pipe and the next day Zanny posted here how the stove was a monster. Tons of heat on high, extended low burn times. All because the system was not optimized.

Wait until it is cold out and then see what happens! Looks great.

In all of my years of burning I have never started a fire and shut the door tight. Always leave the door cracked until the fire is ripping along. On my BK, I close the door latch and then close the door so that the latch holds the door open a half inch or so. Leave it there until the stove starts woofing and then ease her shut.

Still, a higher stat setting is necessary this time of year.

This is exactly how I load and start my 20. Now that is when its a cold stove tho. If the stove is still hot I can throw in some splits and close the door.

I don't start burning until it gets into the mid 40s. At that point I will leave the door ajar a little when starting. But when the temp drops another 5 degrees I can close the door right away and the fire will start nicely. Any temp below that and the fire is going 24/7. No worries about starts then.

Yikes, 43 outside right now.
