I am considering putting a woodstove in a living room area which is 200 square feet, connected to the rest of my ~1900 square foot house only by a doorway. The house is heated by a furnace so the purpose of the stove is ambience/coziness. The room has a patio door (loses heat) and a window, and the winters here are quite cold (say 10F in January). I'm looking at the new Jotul stoves, either the F602 v3 or the F445. I was hoping that because these stoves are catalytic, I might be able to get away with one of these--preferably the F445-- even with my small space. What do you think?

The F445 cat permits it to run cleaner, but it's a hybrid and still will run hotter than a pure cat stove like the BK Ashford 20 or Woodstock Fireview. It's EPA tested range is 16,748 to 58,657 BTUs. The F602v3 is a better choice. It has a good, low-output range of 5,994 to 23,415 BTUs/hr.

If the stove room gets too hot, then a table or box fan in the adjacent room, placed on the floor, pointing toward the woodstove will help. Run it on low speed. It will blow the cooler air down low, toward the woodstove. The denser cool air will be replaced with lighter warm air from the stove room. Running this way you should notice at least a 5F increase in the adjacent area temperature after about 30 minutes running, along with a cooler stove room.

For a small space like that I’d opt for the 602 over the 445. I don’t know if the F100 or F3 CB are available in Canada but I’d look at those as well.

Thanks very much for your helpful comments. Unfortunately we can't get the F3 or the F100 in Canada, it seems. My hesitation about the 602 is the log size and the fire view (F445 wins on both points, I think). I'd be interested if you have other stove suggestions or thoughts. Thanks again!
